The first wave of Fantastic Fest was announced today, and the Austin-based genre festival revealed a surprise for its opening night. Legendary’s all-new version of the Troma Entertainment classic, The Toxic Avenger will have its worldwide debut debut on September 21. The film comes from writer/director Macon Blair, who was most recently seen in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.

The reimagining of the 1984 horror-comedy stars Peter Dinklage as Toxie, as well as Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Elijah Wood, Sarah Niles, Julia Davis, Julian Kostov, and Kevin Bacon. The story is about a toxic accident transforming mild-mannered janitor Winston Gooze into a radioactive solider of the future, who wields a mop he shares a telepathic bond with.

Twitch drops are coming to Baldur’s Gate 3 today, giving players a chance to earn extra in-game rewards by watching their favorite streamers play Baldur’s Gate 3. The announcement was made via a blog post on the game’s official website, which gives players a better look at what kind of loot they can expect. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

Good news, bad news: There is an adorable diorama that comes as a bonus with a special bundle of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. But it’s only available to those who live in the United Kingdom.

The Nintendo Store for the UK is offering the Paper Mario remaster with a buildable battle stage–seen below. The diorama features Mario and Goombella facing off against Lord Crump, Koopa Troopa, Bob-omb, Goomba, and Chain Chomp. The heroes and villains are being watched by an audience of Toads, Koopas, and Goombas. It’s pretty cute. The bundle also has three rubber keychains as preorder bonuses. Starfield design director and writer Emil Pagliarulo has spoken out in response to the showering of praise put upon the game by God of War series co-creator David Scott Jaffe.

Very quietly and without warning, Assassin’s Creed: 4 Black Flag was recently removed from sale on Steam. It’s still listed, and you can still access it if you already own it, but new purchases aren’t currently possible. The surprise shutdown sparked hope among some fans that Ubisoft might be working on a Black Flag remake—and maybe even that a surprise release could be in the offing. But Ubisoft says that’s not actually the case, and that sales of Black Flag weren’t intentionally halted. Something’s just gone wrong.

“We are aware that Assassin’s Creed Black Flag is currently unavailable for purchase on Steam,” a Ubisoft representative told PC Gamer. “This is due to a technical issue, and our teams are working on a solution to bring it back as soon as possible.”

Larian Studios announced on Monday that Jim Southworth, who led the Baldur’s Gate 3 cinematic animation team, has died. He was 56 years old, and had been diagnosed with cancer at the end of 2022.

“Jim was always ready to join in the fun,” said Larian UK studio head James Austin in a statement sent to PC Gamer. “Friends with everyone in the team. Eager to be with his animators yet old enough to be their father. He loved making games, and we loved making them with him. We will miss him greatly.”

Among Southworth’s other credits in his multi-decade career are sandbox MMO Boundless, multiple PlayStation EyeToy games and the early PSVR development, and ’90s animated series The Animals of Farthing Wood. He worked on Baldur’s Gate 3 for five years, starting in 2019.
